Jacques Raymond, impassioned by the discovery of the people of the world began his life of adventures thanks to the Zellidja purses, in the years 1970. During ten years, he was Tour Operator specialist in the countries of high mountain such as Nepal or Peru. The discovery of Tibet, 20 years ago, was for him true revealing on the human level. Today photographer and explorer, it travels the world, out of the beaten paths. He is the author of the books “Au Tibet des rebelles Golok ” and “Khora, pèlerinages et explorations au Tibet ” who, according to Michel Peissel, contribute to a superb share of our knowledge of the Tibetan universe . He was the team leader of the french expedition in the Tsangpo Gorges - composed of the famous mountaineers Jean-Pierre Frachon, Gilles Trousselier, Antoine Cayrol and Laurent Ajalbert - first world through a Tibetan area little explored and virtually inaccessible. Jacques Raymond comes from Auvergne area in the center of France and still lives in between two expeditions. He currently finishes the drafting of three new works:
- The first about the Moluccas islands, mythical islands of the spices road. He speaks the local language and went over there many times. In October 2005, he aimed to discover the mysterious tribe of Orang Bati, which lives in the east of Ceram islands. These tribes terrified the populations on several hundred kilometers around; they had indeed the reputation to be able to fly… and to eat children. He found them…
- The second about Kunlun range, third more important mountain system in the world which borders Tibet in north and which remains very mysterious and mainly unexplored. Very sparse, coloured and varied populations, with some Tibetans nomads of another age, some Turk Uyghur, some Kyrgyz, and some Mongolians…, landscapes of high snow-covered mountains on the Sin-Kiang side with green oases foreground and dunes sand, infinite lonelinesses on the Tibetan side of Chang Thang at more than 5000 meters above sea level. A chapter is devoted to the first ascent of the third top of the chain, in the Kunlun Goddess range, during April and May 2006.
- The third, in collaboration with Catherine Samson, about the great raid through Borneo, from East to West. The objective laid down for this ultimate trip was as follows : to start from Tarakan, on the East coast of Kalimantan, the indonesian part of Borneo and to join Pontianak, on the West coast, by using only the river and land communication : boat, car or bus, trek, excluding the plane. Some footpath in the jungle were not used since tens of years. It was a hard and difficult trip in the forest, by opening the way with the machete, in permanent company of Dayaks friends…
He collaborates occasionally in magazines of reports photographs and presents conferences about Tibet and Indonesia. He soon will go back to Tibet on which he prepares a new subject.
